etymology

my chinese name is “遥遥” (yao yao) - meaning “distant”, “wandering”, or “far away”. my mother’s named me 遥遥 because for her, my birth in seattle signified the beginning of a new life very far away from her own motherland across the pacific ocean in fujian, china. 

by establishing “studio yao yao” as an informal platform for personal projects grounded in architectural practice and research, yet eager to challenge its disciplinary bounds, i aim to bring together seemingly “遥远” or far-away interests, people, and places through design.
